engine swap

Postby ryan » Wed May 26, 2010 4:36 am

Hi
I have a 3T84A-LP motor from a yanmar 330D, that Ive almost finished rebuilding. Unfortunately I dont have a tractor body to put this into! does anyone know if there are any other tractors that I can use this engine with? I may be able to get a 240. Im in South Africa, and Yanmars are very rare here, Ive looked for a 330 for about 2 years, with no luck!
thanks

That is an interesting way of doing it... rebuild an engine and then look for a tractor to put it in :D .

The 3T84 was used in the 3000, 336, 330, 2620,2820, 2310, 2402, 2202, & 226 BUT there are several variations of the 3T84 including hydraulic pump location, sleeved/unsleeved, etc. The letters after the 84 are what designate all of that and they may not all interchange.

The 240 is a 2 cylinder tractor and the 3T84 will not fit without MAJOR modifications.

For what its worth... It might be better to use the engine on a generator or something and then just find a complete tractor. I think the odds of finding one of those models with a bad engine in your area are probably pretty slim.

Best thing is probably to get it running, put it up for auction, then buy what you want. You can probably get a good running tractor for what you can get for a freshly, (well), rebuilt engine.

Thanks guys - I've thought about turning it into a generator - I'm very keen to set up a biogas plant on our property - got to find a use for all the 2nd hand horse feed - so I'll look into converting it to gas, otherwise I'll have to sell it. I don't like to idea of having something Ive toyed with for so long being eaten by Hs2 though, so selling is probably the best bet. Spares are a nightmare here, so I'll look at getting a more common machine.

Thanks for your help, don't know where else I could have got answers as good as these!

Cheers

I'm sure that if the tractor you want was in Australia you would have located it by now, but you could contact one of the firms that buy and ship used tractors from Japan.
