To know if it's drive-train- or PTO-related, if the PTO has to be turning a rotating implement to get the noise, does the tick-rate vary as the PTO speed or the engine speed? If you don't get the noise with the PTO turning without an implement attached, do you get it when the implement is turning without any strain on it (like speed up a mower and then let it coast down)?
Norm, Not sure how you know he has a over-running clutch installed. I thought they were an accessory that were installed by the end user (Hoye sells them as a stand alone product). Some tractors may come from the factory with one installed but the question doesn't include the model of the tractor.
