ticking noise when clutch depressed with pto running

Postby Kevin » Thu Jul 22, 2010 9:29 am

I have a strong ticking noise when I depress the clutch if I have a pto implement attached. What would cause this and how do I fix it.

Thanks in advance

To know if it's drive-train- or PTO-related, if the PTO has to be turning a rotating implement to get the noise, does the tick-rate vary as the PTO speed or the engine speed? If you don't get the noise with the PTO turning without an implement attached, do you get it when the implement is turning without any strain on it (like speed up a mower and then let it coast down)?

You don't fix it. That's your overrunnung clutch doing it's job.

Norm,
Not sure how you know he has a over-running clutch installed. I thought they were an accessory that were installed by the end user (Hoye sells them as a stand alone product). Some tractors may come from the factory with one installed but the question doesn't include the model of the tractor.

So ask him. I'm betting he either has a U S model tractor with an internal ORC, or an add-on ORC.

It is a US model built in the mid to late 80's YM147d. The ticking noise slows with the rpm of the implement (pto)
